Statue in front of Cline Library

In 1996, the Hungarian artist Péter Párkányi created the statue in front of Cline Library for Northern Arizona University's third-year centennial celebration. The five-ton statue is made of sandstone, limestone, and bronze and is named Untitled 1996: Year of Science. Párkányi's sculptures are known to reflect their surrounding environments and he created this piece with the intention of conveying an intellectual message. The university planned to move it to the front of the Wettaw Biology Building, but it has remained at Cline Library.

Untitled 1996: Year of Science is well-known on campus and students attribute different names to the statue, such as "Scholar Guy" and "Honors Dude." Passers-by also sometimes decorate and adorn the work to reflect the time of year.
