Lumberjack Gymnasium
Arizona State College at Flagstaff dedicated the Lumberjack Gymnasium in February 1951. Previously, the men's basketball team played at Flagstaff High School or the College Gymnasium, now Riles. Lumberjack Gym had an indoor track and a seating capacity of 3,300 for spectators. From 1951 to 1989, the gym also hosted concerts including Van Cliburn, The Fifth Dimension, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Ray Charles, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, and Buddy Rich. An addition in 1972 provided space for offices, classrooms, locker rooms, and the Athletics department. After the basketball teams moved to the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome in 1977, the gym's offices hosted the Athletics and the Humanities faculties. The university demolished the gym in 1997 after it was condemned because of safety issues and expensive repairs.
