South Campus Recreation Complex

Northern Arizona University opened the South Campus Recreation Complex in 2009. The area consists of two South Recreation Fields and an Athletic Throwing Field, all built with artificial turf. NAU used sustainable practices in the creation of the shot put landing zones by reusing chipped wood from pine trees cleared during construction. The use of recycled materials helped this facility earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.

The South Recreation Fields can host up to six athletic events at a time including soccer, lacrosse, rugby, flag football and softball. An adjacent covered picnic area includes restrooms and a storage building. The nearby Athletic Throwing Field has two hammer and discus throwing cages and two shot put rings.
