“She did this personal project with the jazz and blues singers, and she basically sort of put this on my desk and said ‘find me these people.’ So, without the internet, I was calling all these people and talking them into being part of the project … finding out about their work. And then she would go and meet them … and she used to say that they were always like ‘Where’s Kristen?,’ and she’s like ‘I’m Sue—I’m the photographer.” -Kristen Iwai
A big blues fan, Bennett sought to meld her personal and professional interests to continually challenge herself behind the camera. She recruited a number of blues musicians to be featured with their instruments and unique style of dress. Her expertise is evident in this project as she exercised her technical dexterity by prioritizing textures and controlled light composition.
