Emerald City
In 2003, Northern Arizona University built four similar structures, labeled A through D, to serve as "swing space" (temporary accommodations) for displaced departments during construction. NAU nicknamed the buildings "Emerald City" due to their green roofs.
As of 2016, Building A houses the NAU Police Department. Building B contains Contracting and Purchasing Services which provides purchasing, contracting, accounts payable, claims, insurance, surplus, shipping and receiving, and property services to university departments. Building C houses the Engineering Fabrication Shop for students in the College of Engineering, Forestry, and Natural Sciences to learn to use machine shop equipment including drill presses, belt sanders, and bench grinders. After the university demolished the Anthropology building in 2004, the Anthropology department occupied Building D until 2016.
