2020 Mystery Game

The Flagstaff 2020 Mystery Game was one of the biggest outreach components of the visioning process. Led by Kate Sibley from the Museum of Northern Arizona and the Flagstaff 2020 Outreach Team, the goal of the Mystery Game was to create a public interest in the Flagstaff 2020 community visioning process through a collaboratively-written science-fiction novel which asked the readers questions about Flagstaff landmarks.

Copies of the novel’s 20 chapters were available to the public at Flagstaff Public Library, McGaugh’s Newsstand, Hastings, Kwik Kopy West, and the National Bank of Arizona.

The chapters, written by local authors, encouraged those who wanted to play to explore the town and conduct research to try to figure out the clues at the end of each chapter. Once all 20 chapters were released, citizens could send in their answer sheets to different locations in Flagstaff for the chance to win a wide range of prizes. The grand prize was a new and affordable home built in Flagstaff—Carl Clark’s idea.
