Katie Lee was a river runner, and although her main muse was Glen Canyon, the list would not be complete without her. She was an actress and a folk singer, and most notably for this list, a river activist. She strongly opposed the Glen Canyon Dam before and long after its opening. She is quoted as saying, “the only thing that prevented her from blowing it up was that she did not know how.”

Katie Lee, Grand Canyon, circa 1953.
