Buzz Holmstrom tried and actually succeeded in running the river solo, beginning at Green River. Holmstrom had a true love for the river and was noted by friends to always appear in awe of the canyon. At the end of his solo trip, a boatman refused him a tow across Lake Mead, so he instead rowed it himself, taking 4 ½ days to complete the task. He symbolically ended his journey by touching the nose of his boat to the wall of Boulder Dam.
