John Running has been photographing on the Colorado Plateau since 1965, when he and his family moved to Flagstaff. The rocks, deserts, canyons, mountains, and rivers have served as backdrops for his shoots with models, Navajos, cowboys, and river runners. These same locales also serve independently as subjects throughout his career. In these images, Running puts forth a multiplicity of stories about people living on and alongside the Colorado Plateau.
