In the summer of 2001, John Running and Sue Bennett went to Scotland to photograph the people and landscapes of the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides Islands. One impetus for the trip was to pay respect to Paul Strand, an American modernist photographer whom Running admires.
Strand photographed the Outer Hebrides for his book Tir a'Mhurain. Like Strand, Running photographed people in their homes and working. He also shot landscapes, crofts and boats.
