Flagstaff History For Kids! Page 4

Children attended a variety of churches: Nativity, Federated Community Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, and the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.

Kids did not have as many toys then. They played with marbles, jacks, chess, wagons, dolls, jump ropes, stuffed animals, and bicycles.

Kids did have lots of opportunities for celebrations. Many Navajo families came to town for the annual Pow Wow which began in 1931 and lasted until the 1980's. It took two to three days to get to town with a wagon.

The 4th of July was always fun whether you watched the firemen's race, entered a pie eating contest, or showed off your dog in pet parade. Birthday parties and other holidays were celebrated in ways similar to today.
