Fred Harvey, the man and the company, was synonymous with legendary service and quality, hence his decision to simply name the company the Fred Harvey Company. Time and success created numerous opportunities for the company. In addition to the restaurants, hotels, and dining cars, the company was known for its marketing of Southwestern goods. The Fred Harvey Company established an Indian Department, and its "Indian Detours" sightseeing promotions were hugely successful as a tourism marketing tool. For many years, the company experimented with business ventures, resulting in several successes and some less than profitable yet creative opportunities. The Fred Harvey Company was a prime example of American entrepreneurial spirit.
