SECHRIST HALL

On January 20, 1967 NAU's tallest building and northern Arizona's first high-rise structure was presented by Regent Norman Sharber and dedicated by President Walkup. The nine-story, traditional-style residence hall is named in honor of Dr. C.W. Sechrist, a physician, legislator, and long-time supporter of NAU. As the building was being constructed, a rumor circulated campus that the rapidly rising structure was tilted because it did not set evenly on its rocky base. Today Sechrist houses 589 men, most of which are first and second-year students. A hall tradition is dubbed the "Sechrist Psychos,": a group of residents wear hockey masks to football and basketball games as a show of support.
