TAYLOR HALL 1905

Designed by Millard and Creighton and built in 1905 of red-fired brick, Taylor Hall was Northern Arizona Normal School's first residence hall. Prior to 1905, the school rented the Judge J. S. Bunch home on west Santa Fe Avenue as a student residence. Female students, paying $18 rent per month, occupied Taylor hall until 1908 when a second dormitory (Bury Hall) was completed. Taylor Hall then became a men's residence, which it remains today. In 1920, the school officially named the dormitory Taylor Hall in honor of Almon Nicholas Taylor, NANS's first president. To simulate the more expensive Moenkopi sandstone used for Old Main, Taylor's brick exterior was covered with red brushed concrete in 1935.
