GAMMAGE LIBRARY 1930

Built in 1930 of Moenkopi sandstone in the Richardsonian Romanesque style at a cost of $130,000, the building's entrances are elaborately decorated with scrollwork and arched windows. The Gammage Library, named for Arizona State Teacher's College president Grady Gammage, initially housed the Registrar's and Deans' offices in addition to classrooms, the school newspaper, and the library. A dumbwaiter was used to carry books from the basement to the library on the top floor. The Administration Annex, consisting of concrete blocks faced with a sandstone veneer, was added to the building in 1958. The building currently houses university administration offices.
