Between the years of 1942 and 1945, Bill Belknap worked at the White House as a Navy photographer. He covered the final years of Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration juxtaposed with the United States' involvement into World War II. Belknap was on hand for tours, meetings and diplomatic events, both secret and publicized. Following Harry S. Truman's inauguration, Bill accompanied the President on his overseas route to the Potsdam Conference in Berlin. There, his photographs documented Truman's tour of the Allied Forces, scenes of the 'Big Three' conference, and views of the war-torn city. The war diary Belknap kept in Berlin complements the images, giving an inside look at the day to day sights and events.
