Books are probably the first items that most people associate with libraries. In Cline Library's Special Collections and Archives (SCA) Department, however, treasures "in the form of rare historic manuscripts, vintage photographs, oral history interviews,...old maps" or even the university archives may come to mind before books do. Secondary sources at SCA, such as published monographs, document the history and development of the Colorado Plateau and/or the scholarly life of Northern Arizona University. As with all SCA holdings, books from the SCA's closed stacks do not circulate but are available for use in the reading room. SCA obtains published works, in both the out-of-print and current imprint areas to complement the manuscript and photographic collections and also collects works by NAU faculty and personnel as well as local authors and publishers.
