Who Can Borrow Cline Library Materials?

  • All currently enrolled students, faculty and staff at Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College.
  • Residents of Arizona with a valid state photo ID.

Borrowing Tips for Cline Library Materials

  • Always bring your NAU ID or a photo ID.
  • Visit My Library Account to view items you have checked out and when they are due. Courtesy and overdue reminders will be sent to the email address listed in your account.
  • Build in the time that may be required if the item you need is checked out or needs to be requested from another library. 
  • Don't lend your ID or borrowed items to others or ask them to return library items for you. 
  • Report a lost ID or library materials as soon as possible to the Main Desk.
  • Tell us if you notice an error on your account or with items checked out to you.

Renew Cline Library Items

The library emails courtesy and overdue reminders to your email account on file for all items you have borrowed.

After an item eligible for renewal is renewed for the final time, you must return it to the Cline Library by the due date. Items that have been recalled are not eligible for renewal. The renewal policy makes more items in the Cline Library's shared collections immediately available for browsing and research by other users.

If you borrowed an item from another library via Cline Library's Document Delivery Services, visit Request Materials to view your due date, renew or more.

  • The Main Desk.
  • Book drop in the vestibule, to the right of the entrance doors inside the building.
  • Book drop outside the library building, to the left of the entrance doors. The drop is available 24/7, including during holiday closures.

Fines and Fees for Cline Library Items

Maximum late fines and processing fees: 
  • Library materials – $125 maximum ( + the replacement cost of any individual item if not returned)
  • Lending laptops – $250 maximum ( + the replacement cost of the laptop if not returned)

Item Needed by Another User

You are asked to return the item by a revised earlier date so another user who has requested it can use it.

Overdue Booked Media

Library emails a billing notice to the email on file for your Cline Library account.

Because the media item is overdue it is unavailable for another user's scheduled use.

Fee: $25 late fee.
   
Overdue Laptop

Fee: $25 per hour up to a maximum of $250

After 10 hours overdue, the Library will email a billing notice to the email on file for your Cline Library account.

Replacement Fee: $2,500 (you can reduce this to the accrued late fee by returning the item).

   
Overdue Lending Equipment

Fee: $25 per day for the first 3 days.

After 3 days overdue, Library emails a billing notice to the email on file for your Cline Library account. 

Fee: Replacement fee (based on item cost), plus a $25 processing fee. 

You can reduce the fee:
  • To the late fee ($25 per day up to a maximum of $125) by returning the item.

After 4 hours overdue, Library emails a billing notice to the email on file for your Cline Library account. 

Fee: Replacement fee (based on item cost), plus a $25 processing fee. 

You can reduce the fee:
  • To the late fee ($25 per hour up to a maximum of $125) by returning the item.
   
Overdue Keys and Marker Packs

After one day overdue, Library emails a billing notice to the email on file for your Cline Library account. 

Fee: $35 late fee.

You can reduce the fee:
  • To zero by returning the item.
   
Overdue Reserves Materials

After one day overdue, library emails a billing notice to the email on file for your Cline Library account. 

Fee: $25 late fee.

   
Damaged or Lost Items Library staff will discuss replacement options and fees with you.

3. When are my Cline Library charges transferred to NAU Student and Departmental Account Services?
  • If your Cline Library account has been billed for more than 60 days and has a balance of $280 or more, your charges will be transferred to Student and Departmental Account Services, which manages past due accounts
  • The library will send you an email letting you know your charges have been transferred. 
  • Once your charges are transferred, they will appear in your LOUIE account, and you can pay them using a number of Student and Departmental Account Services payment methods.
4. When do Cline Library charges impact my ability to register for classes?
  • Cline Library charges transferred to Student and Departmental Account Services result in a financial hold
  • If you have a financial hold, you cannot register for classes, receive a refund, or obtain transcripts, diplomas or certificates of degree.
5. How can I clear my Cline Library record quickly?
  • Return any overdue or billed items and pay remaining overdue or processing fees. Allow 24 hours for your account to be cleared of fines and fees. 
  • If you have paid charges that the Cline Library transferred to Student and Departmental Account Services, provide the Cline Library with a receipt of your Student and Departmental Account Services payment so we can clear your Cline Library account.
  • If you are a CCC student, faculty, or staff and have a fine from Cline Library you will pay Cline Library directly. Blocks will be added to CCC accounts and may restrict access to services such as course registration. The CCC Registration Office cannot accept payment for library fines.
  • Holds resulting from Cline Library fines are typically cleared from CCC accounts within one week of their being settled at Cline Library. If you need to clear a CCC hold quickly, make certain that you receive a receipt from Cline Library when you settle your fine. The CCC Registration Office or the CCC Library and Learning Resources Coordinator can remove the hold from your CCC account upon seeing a receipt verifying that your Cline Library account is clear of fines.
