Carrel and Locker Policies

Carrel Policies

If there is not currently a carrel available for you, your request information will be kept for one year.  Users can renew honors/graduate carrels up to three times, and faculty carrels two times.  Those who have exceeded the maximum number of renewals will be added to the wait list.

All honors/graduate carrels are shared between two students.  Due to federal and state law, we cannot tell you the identity of your carrel mate.  If you wish to work out a schedule for shared carrel usage, we encourage you to leave a note in the carrel to initiate communication with your carrel mate. You may request a specific carrel mate on your application form.

Guidelines for Usage

  • Keep the floor and counter clean and clear of debris.
  • No electronic appliances or open flames are to be used.  Examples include but are not limited to candles, incense, coffee makers and electric kettles.  Lamps and laptop computers are permitted.
  • Do not store any perishable food or drink items in your carrel.  Non-perishable food must be sealed in a plastic, glass, or metal container.
  • Never block the window or door.
  • All Cline Library materials must be checked out to a person using the carrel.  Non-circulating items, such as periodicals, may not be stored in carrels.
  • The Main Desk should be contacted immediately for maintenance issues.

Library staff will audit carrels periodically in order to ensure that all Cline Library materials are appropriately checked out and that all other usage guidelines are being followed.

There is a $35 replacement fee for lost carrel keys.
